“Lower back pain” refers to any pain or discomfort experienced in the bottom region of the spine, which is known as the lumbar spine and maybe caused by injury to a muscle (strain) or ligament (sprain). This region supports most of the upper body’s weight.
- Achy, dull pain
- Muscle spasms

- Pain that moves down one leg or to the groin, buttock or upper thigh

- Rest, change in the activity level or reduce the time of the activity
- Ice then heat
- During the first 24 to 48 hours, use ice wrapped in a towel or cloth. Ice helps to reduce swelling, muscle spasms, and pain. Thereafter, switch to heat. Heat helps warm and relaxes sore tissues
- Selective strengthening & stretching exercises
- Protecting the back by using knee braces or supports
- Orthotics in case of a mal alignment
